Ray A. Coleman is Capable of Assisting Community-Based Healthcare and Social Services Organizations

Native Floridian Ray A. Coleman understood at a young age, the importance of serving the community from his parents Mr. Ray Coleman and Mrs. Cora A. Coleman. Throughout his high school career at North Miami Senior High School and studies at both Morris Brown College in Atlanta Georgia and Florida A&M University, Ray provided time and knowledge that assisted local and national service organizations.

While in college, Coleman was the President of the Health Care Management Association, became a national member of both the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE).

Healthcare and Social Service Experience
Since college, Coleman has been active in the Healthcare and Social Service industries.  He was the Director at Jeffries Street Learning Center an educational organization that provides students of all ages with a computer-based learning environment that reinforces the basic skills of learning.

In 2001, Coleman found a need to establish his own nonprofit organization entitled Tapestry Healthcare.  He grew the organization from a volunteer organization that operated two evenings a week to a full time organization with a staff of seven.  The budget grew from $0 to $3,000 to approximately $500,000.  Coleman oversaw the provision of comprehensive primary care services to 3,317 children and adults that were geographically located within 10 different counties throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and generated 9,367 visits.  Although Tapestry Healthcare closed in 2006, Coleman helped to shine a light on the growing indigent health care problem in Collin County and beyond.

Accomplishments:

  • Increased program funding from approximately $150,000 to over $400,000 and staff members from three to 14 in less than three years
  • Becoming certified as an Assisted Living Facility (ALF) Administrator
  • Achieving licensure for an Adult Family Care Home
  • Being a co-founding member of the South Florida Chapter of NAHSE
  • Being the President of the South Florida Chapter of NAHSE
  • Being a member of The 500 Role Models of Excellence
  • Being a member of the International’s Who’s Who among Professionals

Personal Summary
Ray A. Coleman is married and is the father of three children.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management; a Masters Degree in Business Administration accompanied by a specialization in Health Services Administration; and has completed all course work on his Doctorate in Public Policy and Administration at Walden University.  In addition, Coleman has also completed two specializations in Health Services and Public Policy.  His dissertation topic is entitled, The Economic Impact of Obesity within the Adult African-American Community: A Comparable Study of Collin County and Denton County Texas.

Outside of the healthcare industry, Coleman has served as an Adjunct Professor at Miami Dade Community College North Campus.
